Nearly a month after undergoing LASIKS eye surgery my eyesight has stabilized at 20/20. My left eye is still a bit blurry and I’ll have an option within the next two months to undergo an additional corrective procedure – but I won’t make that decision until June. Corrective procedures, if needed, should occur within 90 days of the original session so they don’t have to re-cut the cornea.

Patti is also now a member of the 20/20 club. She had LASIKS surgery last Thursday, 25 April. Since Patti also needed glasses for reading, the results for her seemed more dramatic and immediate. She’s thrilled. Of course the sight of the two of us occasionally pressing our fingers to the bridge of our nose (phantom glasses) is somewhat amusing.

Christopher is taking notes since if he inherits anything from his Mom and Dad it will likely be poor eyesight by the time he’s an adult. Christopher has learned to swim since arriving in Hawaii. It’s not pretty and dog-paddling might be a more accurate description of the motion – but he confidently jumps in the deep end and motors wherever he wants to go. Since we have a small pool in our backyard here, we’re happy that he know how to maneuver and get out if he were to accidentally fall in. Of course he still isn’t allowed in the pool without Mom or Dad around.

I took delivery of my new 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac (4x4) last week – nearly a month ahead of schedule. I ordered the vehicle back in February through Military Car Sales in Misawa. Everything worked as advertised – though it took the paperwork a couple days to catch up with the truck before I could take delivery. To say I’m enjoying the truck is an understatement. It’s versatility is amazing and I look forward to hauling gear and people to and from the mountains, beaches, parks, and sports events.

We’ve been in our Mililani house for two weeks now. All the boxes are unpacked, closets and drawers organized, and the garage is already serving as home to my truck. Once the packing boxes are picked up tomorrow we’ll get both cars in the garage. Lots of people live here all their lives and never get their cars in the garage. The last two weeks though have been EXHAUSTING – and all three of us have been sick. Thankfully the colds here seems to last 3-4 days instead of the 3-4 weeks we’re used to from Misawa’s colds. I had it the worst and was essentially incapacitated for two days as I worked my way through five boxes of tissues. I tried several over-the-counter drugs but nothing abated the constant sinus drainage. Enough though about bodily fluids. The important thing is that we’re all better now (and holding our breath).

The neighborhood here is unbelievably quiet which might be appealing for the geriatric set – but is a bit challenging for parents of a four-year old. We got ahold of a neighborhood roster today though courtesy of the one-person welcome wagon and there are a couple of 5-6 year olds out there. Now that our schedule has settled down a bit we can turn our attention to discovering the area – the recreation centers, parks, etc… We are enjoying the convenience of having lots of shops and restaurants nearby – though we aren’t yet over the sticker shock of groceries. We quickly learned though that by using coupons and member cards at the local grocery store, and by visiting COSTCO and KMART once a week – we can dramatically reduce our grocery bills.

Three more weeks till I report for duty so we plan to make the most of it.

Take Care!

Terry
