..After three years of driving inexpensive used vehicles in Japan I though it might be nice to drive something a bit newer and FUN while in Hawaii. On my last business trip to Hawaii while driving back to the hotel, I noticed an odd looking vehicle that grabbed my attention - it was a black four-door SUV with a half-bed. I caught the "explorer" logo on the vehicle out of the corner of my eye - but I wasn't sure since I had never heard of a Ford Explorer truck. I had heard of short-bed extended cabin trucks - but this was a first (you'll have to remember our exposure to U.S. advertisements is extremely limited in Japan. I made a mental note to look into this later and sure enough learned about Ford's foray into the cross-over SUV market. As if I needed another reminder, the "New Car Guys" at Misawa Air Base began displaying a red Explorer Sport Trac. I spent about 30 minutes climbing into the and looking around the vehicle before making up my mind to order one for delivery to Hawaii.
After a couple of false starts in the ordering process (my attempt to order coincided with the 2002.5 retooling effort) I managed to place a successful order for a 2002 Silver Birch 4WD model. I took delivery of the ST in late April - nearly a month earlier than scheduled delivery (Yippeeee)!
Mods in the offing include Westin Safari Bar w/PIAA Fog lights, K&N Filter & Injection System, 4x4 Decals, and Yakima Rack system.
